News
September 2021: we have recently purchased, and installed, road safety mirrors at the western exits to the village beside Broughton Grove, and the bus stop. We hope this will help residents and visitors to join the “main road” more safely as it can be hard to see oncoming traffic, especially in the summer
We have also arranged to have the Common mowed and strimmed and the verges of the lane between the village and the bus shelter trimmed back. The Common looks so much better and we will be keeping on top of it from now on
March 2022: following the installation of safety mirrors, another mirror was requested to be installed on the fence adjacent to the bus shelter. This was purchased, and is now in place
We are also investigating the flooding on the Common, where there was once a culvert (last seen thirty years ago according to Mike Dobson) This will be dug out in the hope of finding a pipe that can be unblocked
The issue of potholes remains, and they are getting worse. We do keep reporting them but to no avail. Wherever you go in Cumbria there are holes in the road, and although that is no excuse, I don’t think we are the only ones being ignored
We are getting closer to having a defibrillator in the village and have had a meeting with a representative from Grange First Responders which was very interesting and productive. The defibrillator is to be ordered and Grange First Responders are holding a training session, on the 26th July, for those keen to update their first aid skills
September 2022
Success at last! All the potholes have finally been filled in. It took a long time, a LOT of complaints and reporting, but it paid off in the end
We have recently installed signs to warn drivers to slow down when driving through Field Broughton city centre, and we have also put some on the lane from the church to the Broughton House junction, warning that the road is only 6’6″ wide
White Moss Common is looking good, after three cuts in rapid succession, and the lane from the bus shelter has had a trim
The defibrillator is here, but we are still waiting to hear from the Rooms Committee about whether we can install it on the side, or the front, of the Rooms, or somewhere else
but, never fear: the blocked culvert on White Moss Common remains blocked, and is yet to be discovered. A search will be mounted soon…..
